Can real strategy games work on a phone?
Strategy is my favorite genre and also the one I approach with the most suspicion on mobile. Small screens and fat fingers are a bad match for games that need precision and patience. And yet a few titles get it right. The ones that work usually accept the limitation instead of fighting it. Big, clear tap targets, a good pinch-to-zoom map, and a pause-and-plan mode make all the difference. Tideborne Command does this well, letting you stop time to think without losing the tension. What doesn't work is porting a desktop interface straight to a phone. Tiny buttons and dense menus turn a smart game into a frustrating one. I'd rather have fewer options that I can actually reach. The other challenge is session length. Strategy invites long play, but phones and batteries prefer short bursts. The best mobile strategy games save often and let you stop anywhere, so a two-minute wait and a two-hour evening both feel fine. My honest take: mobile will never replace a proper strategy setup, but the good ones are more than a snack. They're a full meal, just served in smaller bites.
